Mrs.
Ellis' and Ms. Price’s third-grade classes are participating in a “Flat
Stanley” project. In the
original book, Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, Stanley Lambchop is
squashed flat by a falling bulletin board.
One of the advantages of being flat is that his parents can put him
in a large envelope and mail him for a visit to a friend.
Each student made a paper Flat Stanley, wrote a personal letter, and sent
them out to several recipients asking them to care for Stanley for a short
while, share some experiences with him, and then mail a letter or postcard
along with some photographs back to the class including information about
themselves, their jobs, and their location.
Students
are enjoying getting responses from the recipients.
Each day, they eagerly check the mail to find out where Flat
Stanley has been and what kind of experiences he has encountered. So
far Flat Stanley has visited
Indiana, Kentucky,
Florida, West Virginia, Virginia, Washington, Hawaii, California, Texas,
New Jersey, Utah, Tennessee, Minnesota, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania,
Russia, Australia, Kuwait and Canada. Stanley sure gets around! |
