Billiards

Billiard Table

By Yutaro

This billiard table is inside the home of Henry Clay. The game of billiards is different from the game of pool played today. Did you notice that there are no pockets on the billiard table? When Henry Clay played billiards he only used three balls and he did not use a cue. There were two yellow balls and one red ball. I wonder how you play billiards with your hands. I thought everybody used their cue. Today when people play pool they use eight or nine small balls of different colors. They play on a table with six pockets and they use a cue stick to strike the ball. Billiards and pool are the same because they both have balls, four corners, and a large table. They played games two hundred years ago and we are still playing games today.

Billiards

By Kyle

Do you like to play games? After a big supper Henry Clay and his male companions would go into the men’s parlor to play Billiards. Billiards is a similar game to pool, except that it has no pockets and pool does. While the men played Billiards, they discussed the winnings of Henry Clay’s prized thoroughbred horses. Trophies and purses lined the walls of this room.

Although Billiards still exists today, it is not as popular as it was in Henry Clay’s time. Today people play games like pool, golf, and basketball. People also watch TV, play video games, and computer games in their spare time.

Billiards Table

A group of third graders from Picadome Elementary visited Ashland,Henry Clay’s home. While they were inside the home, the students walked down the hall. They entered a room with the billiards table in it. It is called the billiards table because you only play with three balls unlike a pool table which uses nine balls. When Henry Clay’s friends came over, they could enjoy themselves playing billiards.
