Lucretia and the office
The lady’s office belonged to Lucretia Clay, Henry Clay’s wife. Lucretia
was a farmer. The people who did the farming were the slaves. Lucretia
Clay was the manager of the farm. The manager of the farm tells what the
slaves are supposed to do. Like what to grow and how to do it. Her
slaves grew celery, corn, squash and peppers. She also had the keys to
the cabinets where all the food is stored. She was the one that decided
what people were going to eat. In her office I bet there are all sorts
of books on farming. In addition to running the farm, she was the mother
of eleven children.
