A Painting of George Washington
By Mariana
Have you ever been to Henry Clay’s home? If you haven’t, you’d better
get your listening ears on, because the Picadome students went there and
learned a lot about this famous portrait. This is a painting of George
Washington with his wife, Martha. It is a very large oil painting, and
it hangs on one wall in Henry Clay’s parlor. The painting was a gift to
Henry Clay and his wife. This is not the only painting that Henry Clay
had in his home. There were paintings and portraits in every room!
Although we still have paintings and portraits, most people have
photographs hanging on the walls of their home because we have cameras
now. This is a much cheaper way to remember our loved ones. |

Portraits
by Darius
Do
your parents have a lot of photographs of you hanging on the walls of
your house? In Henry Clay’s home, there were no photographs at all. When
Henry Clay was alive cameras didn’t even exist. Instead, people had
portraits painted of their loved ones. Portraits were usually very
expensive. Henry Clay had at least three portraits hanging in every room
of his mansion. He must have had a lot of money. The portrait in this
picture is of Henry Clay’s son.
Today portraits are still expensive, but that’s no problem. Today we can
take all the pictures that we want with a camera and send them to Wal-mart.
Then, we pick out a couple to take home to have a picture of any thing
we want. We can maximize it and hang it on our walls at home. |

The Artwork At
Ashland
In Henry Clay’s home,
Ashland, upstairs there is a huge picture of Henry Clay. Henry
Clay had the picture painted when he was running for President.
The picture showed colorful farming, shipping, and the flag. He
wanted to show what was important to him. Henry Clay ran for
President three times but he lost every time. There other
pictures of Henry Clay and his family at Ashland.
Downstairs we saw two
bust of Henry Clay. One was all white. It is suppose to look the
most like Henry Clay. It was only his head. The other one was
copper gold and it had him with a shirt.
