Unhidden Holes

Back a good 300 years ago people didn’t have banks, so they had hidey holes. Hidey holes are holes normally in the back of a bookshelf, only rich people have them. Rich people don’t really have their money protected in a bookshelf. Hidey holes are supposed to keep money and other objects safe but they don’t if they’re in a bookshelf. The easiest way to spot hidey holes is to see if books are in, in one place. Hidey holes can be big or small. Hidey holes are a good way to keep your money safe unless you put it in a bookshelf. It’s unsafe in a bookshelf because usually rich people put it there and they know its there. Nowadays people have banks, so they don’t need hidey holes.

ONE GOOD HIDING PLACE

by Kyle

In Henry Clay’s time instead of a safe they used a Hidey Hole to hide their valuables in. A Hidey Hole is a secret compartment where women would hide their diamonds and gold. Little girls would hide their favorite dolls and toys. Boys would hide their knifes and money in it. If you ever go to Henry Clays home look in every bookshelf and you will find a Hidey Hole. What would you hide in a Hidey Hole I would hide my life savings in the Hidey Hole.

Shhh…

Have you ever thought of having a secret compartment just for important papers? Well, Henry Clay did, and that was very sneaky! There were actually four of these hidden spaces….One in each wall of Henry Clay’s library. Back then people didn’t have locks for their doors so they kept important things safe in hidden compartments or safes.

Now people can either put their important papers in a locked file cabinet, box, or hanging file. Our possessions are safer today because we lock our doors and windows. But it would still be pretty fun to have a secret compartment!
