Sword

Hidden Sword

By Sammie

Have you ever seen a sword inside a cane? When Picadome students went to Henry Clay’s home they saw Henry Clay’s walking stick. When Henry Clay was walking in the woods and sensed danger, he could take the top off of his cane and jerk out a dagger which was inside the cane. He could use this small sword to protect himself from any danger. The students also saw a special case that carried Henry Clay’s top hat, and a trunk that served as his suitcase. In this same room there was a mirror that would bend up and down. Back then, Henry Clay would have put two candles in front of this mirror. The reflection would look like four candles, which would give him twice as much light.

Today there is not as much woods, so we don’t need to carry canes with hidden swords. When we take a trip we have suitcases with wheels and a long handles. When we need more light at home, we don’t use more candles, we just flip a switch because now we have electricity. Our items are much different now than they were in Henry Clay’s time.
