“Where I’m From”
by Matthew
I am from the buttery
taste of popcorn popping in the microwave. I am from the
meaty taste of tacos.
And I am from the taste of
tomato sauce on spaghetti.
I am from the fresh
smell of air freshener spraying from the bathroom. I am from the musty
smell of the basement, moldy and putrid. And I am from the smelly smell
of drying paint in our redecorated bedroom.
I am from the sight of
our small family portrait hanging in the hallway. I am from the sight of
birdhouses outside and inside the house. And I am from the sight of Abe
Lincoln in the living room.
I am
from the buzz of the living room fan. I am from the creak of the floor
boards. And I am from the buzz of the flies in the
kitchen.
