By the Numbers - 3rd-5th students learn about the populations of Native Americans in different states and practice reading a table. Native American Recipes - K-5th students experience a taste of Native American foods. Students prepare some foods, including journey cake (a kind of corn bread), that are popular in some Native American cultures. What's in a Name? - 3rd-5th Students learn the origins of the names of U.S. states, focusing on names that were derived from Native American words. Code Talkers - 3rd-5th Students learn about the Navajo code talkers and use a Navajo code talkers' dictionary to create and decode secret messages.

Thematic Unit: Native Americans - unit to  introduce children to the culture of a variety of Native American tribes through literature and related activities.
