SBDM Council Minutes

August 28, 2001

Members present:  Betty Ann Scott, Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Lynch, Darla Simms, and Tammy Johnson

Visitors present:  Charles Skipmore, Bill McMakin, Melody Bourne, Carol Linton, Debra Bodkin, Sara Hodges, Bryan Osburn, and Elayne Crystal

The meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm.

Darla Simms presented Council with Picadome’s Staffing Summary Sheet and discussed the funding allocations for staffing.  Picadome was allotted 12 primary teachers and 5 intermediate teachers for the 2001-2002 school year.  These positions were used to staff 11 primary teachers and 6 intermediate teachers.  Because of overcrowding in kindergarten Council will need to hire another Kindergarten teacher.  This is a position that will not be funded by Central Office. One option in hiring another kindergarten teacher would be to use the money created by the recent  .4 science vacancy after the resignation of Ron Eades.  A combination of money:  the science vacancy, contingency money, and $14,000 in staff budget.  At this time it is not known exactly how much money is available in the contingency fund.  Another plan would be to put the literacy specialist back into the classroom.  It was decided that if the money is available Council would buy another primary position.  If the money is not available that the literacy specialist would  return to the classroom.

Betty Ann Scott recommended that kindergarten teachers only use the first grade section of the Brigance for testing kindergartners.  The kindergarten teachers feel that there is too much repetition in using both the kindergarten and first grade sections.  It was the consensus of Council that kindergarten teachers use only the first grade section.

The meeting adjourned at 7:11 pm

       Respectfully submitted,

       Darla Simms
