SBDM Council Minutes

August 14, 2001

Members present:  Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Johnson, Tammy Lynch, Betty Ann Scott, and Darla Simms

The meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm.

The minutes read and approved with corrections in spelling to Darla Simms name in the July 11 minutes and the addition of Betty Ann Scott to the June 5 council meeting.

Darla Simms presented Council with the general ledger budget.  The Munis budget report will be presented at the next Council meeting.

Darla Simms informed Council of new additions to the Picadome staff.  They are:  Lucia Brown (5th grade teacher), Rikki Rosenberg (.5 writing teacher), Angela Johnson (special education teacher), and Janine Zombek (special education assistant).  After interviewing the 8 candidates available the interviewing committee has not been able to fill the science position.  Darla Simms  is working with Peggy Blanton in the hiring of another special education assistant.

It was the consensus of Council that the .5 writing teacher would work with 3rd and 4th grade students.  She would also be available to model writing lessons.  She will work on a schedule with the 3rd and 4th grade teachers.  It was the consensus of Council that the literacy specialist position would work with 1st graders that have been identified for reading remediation.  The remaining time would be used for students in 2nd and 3rd grade.  The literacy specialist/reading teacher will write a job description to present at the September meeting.  The .5 PSA will work with the literacy specialist.  The responsibility of the PSA will depend upon the funding source.  Half of the PSA funding will be funded by the .5 PSA.  The remaining responsibility will depend upon the funding source.

Darla Simms presented Council with a plan to increase the time that kindergarten students spend in special classes so that it is equitable with that of other classrooms.  Special area teachers would be begin classes at 8:15 am.  It was the consensus of Council to increase this time.

Darla Simms presented Council with the Literacy plan that was developed at the Closing of the Gap Institute in June.
