SBDM
Minutes June 13, 2002 The
Picadome School Community is committed to all students attaining the highest
levels of academic achievement and responsible citizenship through equitable
opportunities in becoming lifelong learners. The meeting was called to order at 6:05 p.m. by chair Darla Simms. (This special called meeting was scheduled due to the fact that we were unable to have our 3:00 p.m. June 6th meeting because neither parent member was able to attend. According to our by-laws we must have a parent member present to meet.) Members present: teachers-Betty Ann Scott, Tammy Johnson, Juaacklyn Cunningham; parents-Tammy Lynch and Tom Barnes. The minutes of the May 16 Meeting and the May 28 Special Called Meeting were read and approved. Budget Council reviewed the SCIF budget report (see attached). Currently our balance is $26,000. Miss Simms reminded council that our request to transfer $18,000 into staffing was approved and will be transferred on July 1, 2002. That will leave approximately 10% of our original allocation to carry forward for the 2002-2003 school year. Information Items All SBDM members are required to attend state mandated SBDM training. On June 6th Miss Simms, Miss Cunningham, and Mrs. Johnson attended the 5:30-8:30 p.m. training at central office. Mrs. Qualls, Mr. Mefford, and Mrs. Lynch will need to attend a session later this summer. Miss Simms will inform them of available training dates. Miss Simms shared information about the Bethune Institute on Culturally Responsive Teaching to be held this summer in Lexington. Since school level professional development funds have been spent for this year, we will not be able to send a team of teachers. Miss Simms will attend if money is available for principals through district funding. Action Items Council members reviewed the Hiring and Consultation Policy for the second reading. After much discussion of the policy recommended by the budget and personnel committee, (see May 18 minutes) council members suggested several changes. Mrs. Johnson will type the policy with the changes for approval at the July SBDM meeting. Miss Simms received notification today from our art teacher, John Guthrie, that he will be taking a position in northern Kentucky. Vacancies at Picadome for the 2002-2003 school year include: art teacher; full time primary instructional assistant; half time primary instructional assistant; first grade teacher; and part-time custodian. Due to years experience in the district, Fayette County Human Resources bumped our least experienced kindergarten assistant and assigned Mrs. Lucretia Thomas as a kindergarten assistant at Picadome. Council members reviewed the Technology Access Policy for the second reading. Council recommended the following changes:
The Technology Access Policy was approved by consensus with these changes. Council reviewed current committee assignments. During their report at the May 16th SBDM meeting the Arts and Humanities-Practical Living/Vocational Studies Committee had recommended to council that their committee keep the same members another year for continuity. Council decided by consensus to keep all committee members the same except for a few changes needed to add some members to the Budget and Personnel Committee. Miss Simms will take care of this with staff. Work Session Council members discussed forming an ad-hoc committee to write job descriptions for our Reading Teacher (.3 retired teacher and .2 music teacher) and Science position (.4 retired teacher; .2 P.E. teacher; .2 Art teacher). We need to make our expectations for these shared positions clear for all involved. Mrs. Johnson said she is willing to work on the job description for the Reading Teacher with some other primary teachers. Council will discuss these again at the July meeting. The scheduling committee will need to meet in July to work on the school schedule for special classes (art, music, P.E. science, library, and computer). Considerations for the school wide schedule include the .2 positions added to our .8 music, art, and P.E. teacher positions and the additional ten minutes added to the instructional day. According to central office staff, the ten minutes was not added to the teacher work day, it was added so students would have an additional ten minutes to make up for loss of instructional time due to transition times, bathroom breaks, recess, etc. Miss Simms explained the configuration of classes the staff voted on in staff meeting including four kindergarten classes, five first grade classes, three second grade classes, one second/third grade class, five third/fourth grade classes and three fifth grade classes. Miss Simms will check on the regulations for placing non-graded primary students with fourth grade students. Items to be considered for the agenda of the July 2nd SBDM meeting:
Items to be considered for the August SBDM meeting: · Revision of Picadome SBDM by-laws · Approval of revised Picadome kindergarten report card The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m Respectfully submitted, Darla Simms
