 SBDM Minutes

Special Called Meeting

March 26, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 5:09 by chair Darla Simms.  Members present:  teachers-Juaacklyn Cunningham, Betty Ann Scott; parent-Tammy Lynch.  Members absent:  teacher-Tammy Johnson; parent- Tom Barnes.  Since this is a special called meeting to discuss staffing. The minutes of the March 21 meeting were not read.

The smaller class size initiative was not discussed at last night’s school board meeting.  All day kindergarten was approved which gives us two additional teachers and an additional .5 assistant but does not provide four discretionary positions.  Therefore we have no additional funding to supplement or change our previous decisions.  According to the survey of primary teachers, there was not a majority who felt we should convert primary assistants to purchase a full time Reading Teacher/Literacy Specialist.

Council members reviewed previous staffing decisions (regarding funding unfunded positions needed to implement our Consolidated Plan) from the March 6th and March 21st SBDM meetings:

·        .5 Reading Teacher

·        .5 Writing Teacher

·        .8 Science Lab teacher, .8 Art teacher, .8 Music teacher, .8 P.E. teacher

·        purchase a Micro-Computer Specialist  (convert Computer aide, $16,720, use balance of this year’s KETS money $8,004, and supplement with SCIF, $2,500-if district approves our request)

·        purchase an additional .05 PSA along with the .5 from section 4 money and .15 provided through the Student Achievement Equity Plan to provide a .7 PSA

These decisions are contingent on district approval of transferring Section 6, SCIF, to Section 4, staffing.  If we are unable to use SCIF for staffing, the science position will be reduced to .47 and the remaining .33 will be used to fund the above positions.

 SBDM was adjourned at 5:30.

 Respectfully submitted,

 Darla Simms
