Picadome ElementarySBDM
Council Minutes September
20, 2001 Members
present: Juaacklyn
Cunningham, Tammy Johnson, Tammy Lynch, Darla Simms
Member absent: Betty
Ann Scott
Visitors:
Charles Skipworth and Allison Kaczmarek The meeting was
called to order at 6:06 pm. The minutes
were read and approved with corrections.
It was
suggested that future agendas be posted on the Picadome web site.
Brenda Smith will talk to Melissa Moore about this. The
year-to-date SCIF budget was given to Council.
Council discussed various codes and amounts of money
available. There was a
question about the Guidance Counseling budget of $900.
Miss Simms will check with Kathy Reedy on how this is used.
The copier rental of $8000 was noted and Miss Simms reported
that it would probably increase this year.
Miss Simms reviewed the money spent to purchase our new
kindergarten teacher: $8,228 out of the $9,000 contingency as well
as remaining staffing budget including discretionary money from .4
Science teacher resignation. Three
hundred and fifty dollars goes to each classroom teacher for
purchase of instructional materials for their classrooms.
Miss Simms also discussed purchases for the new kindergarten
room; is there a need for a sensory table.
Ms. Johnson reported that the kindergarten teachers have
discussed rotating/sharing our existing sensory tables.
It was recommended that Miss Simms meet with the kindergarten
teachers to discuss this. It
was the consensus of Council to check with the kindergarten teachers
before purchasing another sensory table. There was a
question by Council on what is meant by “encumbrances” that are
listed on the budget. Darla
Simms passed out the General Ledger report.
There was a question on where the money comes from for fee
waivers. The next item
on the agenda was personnel. Miss
Simms reported that Jodi Wilson had been sent to us by the district
as the new kindergarten teacher and Gail Smith as our
kindergarten assistant.
Both come from Harrison Elementary after staff reduction due
to the Day 4 count. Miss
Simms has hired Karen Ratliff as a special education assistant. The job
description for the literacy position was given to Council.
It was noted that Mrs. Linton’s reading instruction is in
addition to instruction by the classroom teacher.
It was suggested that Mrs. Linton test in January instead of
holding classes. Council
requested that Miss Simms check on the speech pathologist job
description and schedule to see if she can support the literacy
specialist in phonemic awareness assessments.
Miss Simms recommended a second reading on the literacy
specialist job description at the next SBDM meeting. Council
reviewed Spring CTBS results (see handout).
Scores have improved from 2000-2001.
Darla Simms reported that the faculty will review CTBS, KCCT,
and district testing scores at the October 2nd
Professional Development session on Test Analysis.
Teachers will then work in grade level groups to complete
further data analysis. The schedule
for report cards/progress reports will stay the same for the current
school year (see handout). Intermediate
students receive a report card using the county nine week schedule
while primary students receive a progress report every 12 weeks.
The first progress report will be sent to parents on the
specified date (November 21) if the required parent/teacher
conference has been attended. Miss Simms
shared requests for professional leave from John Guthrie, Kara Beth
Price, Christina Qualls, and Carol Linton.
There was a question on whether a new policy is needed on
professional leave or if the current one needs to be revised.
There was consensus to approve the requests.
There was a request from Council for Becky Boling to present
the PD budget to Council at the next meeting. Miss Simms
proposed that council consider some changes in our current committee
structure. She proposed
that Picadome use the state recommended committees as listed on the
handout. There was consensus to use the SBDM Planning and Policy
Committee Structure with one addition:
a district
recommended Arts/Humanities/Practical
Living committee. Items
considered for the Oct. 11 meeting include:
·
Committee charges/assignments
·
Budget (includes the pd budget)
·
Test scores
·
Disaggregated
data
·
Science curriculum
·
Literacy specialist-2nd
reading
The meeting
adjourned at 8:20 pm. Respectfully submitted, Darla Simms
