Picadome SBDM Council MinutesSpecial Called MeetingFebruary
3, 2003
The
meeting was called to order at 3:12 PM by Darla Simms, chairperson.
Members present were: teachers- Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Johnson and
Bill McMakin; parent Jeff Mefford. Tammy
Lynch, parent member, was absent.
The
single agenda item was the hiring of additional staff due to the increase in
the number of students.
Since
January 6, 2003, Miss Simms has been tracking the number of students enrolled.
We are now over cap size in primary and have been for 15 consecutive days.
When this occurs the district will provide additional staff. Miss Simms
consulted with council concerning the hiring of an additional staff member.
Council needs to decide where to utilize the additional staff.
Since
we are over in primary, the consensus was to use the additional staff in
primary. Council agreed to hire a certified teacher rather than two classified
assistants. Council
reviewed numbers and configurations of the primary classrooms. Because of high
numbers in second grade, council agreed to provide additional help at that
level. The council agreed to the possibility of the new teacher also helping
in 1st grade classes depending on the schedule.
Council
decided not to create new homeroom. Miss
Simms will meet with 2nd grade teachers to determine the schedule
for the additional teacher.
Miss
Simms pointed out that if we hire this individual as a long-term substitute,
it would allow for immediate hiring. Council agreed to have Miss Simms review
the list of long-term substitutes, checking references, availability,
interest, and experience in 2nd grade, and then hire the most
qualified candidate. Meeting
adjourned at 3:41 PM Respectfully
submitted, Becky
Boling
