Picadome ElementarySBDM Minutes July 2, 2002 The Picadome School community is committed to all students becoming life long learners through academic success and responsible citizenship. The
meeting was called to order at 6:08 by chair Darla Simms.
Members present: teachers:
Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Johnson, Christina Qualls; parent: Jeff Mefford. Member
absent: parent:
Tammy Lynch. The minutes of the June 13 meeting were read and approved
with minor changes. Miss Simms
welcomed new members Christina Qualls and Jeff Mefford to the council. Budget
Miss Simms reviewed the responsibility of the SBDM council in overseeing the
SCIF (School Council Instructional Funds) budget throughout the school year.
There have been no changes since the last meeting.
(see June 13 meeting minutes).
Information Items
Miss Simms reviewed with
council members the mandated state training for SBDM members.
The next training provided by Fayette County Public Schools will be
July 9 for experienced members. Our
membership in KASC (Kentucky Association of School Councils) has been
renewed. KASC does offer
training to members however the summer training dates they offer take place
in other counties. Miss Simms
will let Mr. Mefford and Mrs. Qualls know when Fayette County schedules more
SBDM training for new members.
Miss Simms updated council on hiring for the 2002-2003 school year.
She is currently setting up interviews for the primary assistant and .5
primary assistant positions, the art teacher, and the first grade teacher.
(These positions have been posted by Fayette County.)
The interview for the .5 custodian position will take place after
that position has been posted for a month. Action Items
Council members discussed convenient times and dates for SBDM meetings for
the 2002-2003 school year.
The meetings were scheduled for 6:00 p.m. during the 2001-2002 school
year so that more parents would be able to attend however parent attendance
at SBDM meetings did not increase with the time change.
Mr. Mefford reported that afternoon meetings were actually better for
him since he gets off from work at 2:00 and will be picking up his daughter
at Picadome at 2:50.
Council decided to schedule meetings for 3:00 p.m.
Thursdays were best for all council members.

Mrs. Moore has made the corrections to the Technology Access Policy
recommended by council at the June 13 meeting.
This policy was approved by council at the June 13 meeting and will
be used for the 2002-2003 school year.
(see attached)
Council recommends that
the student achievement intervention sheet be shared with staff for input
and review at the first staff meeting. Staff will be asked for additional specific interventions in
both reading and math.
Work
Session
Mrs. Johnson shared the
job description for the reading teacher position.
This is a revision of the Reading Specialist job description Mrs.
Linton had presented to SBDM when this was a full time position rather than
a half time position. Council
members would like this to be reviewed by Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Isaacs then
brought back to SBDM.
The Science teacher job
description was discussed. Council
fills this should include instruction in the Core Content and discussed in
grade levels to decide what is taught in the classroom and what is taught in
by the science lab teachers. This
should be done at the beginning of the school year-perhaps on the August 15
professional development day while staff is working on aligning the social
studies curriculum, the three science lab teachers could work on the science
curriculum. Council feels it is
imperative that both classroom teachers and science lab teachers have an
understanding of who is to teach what in the science curriculum so that the
entire curriculum is covered.
