II.                Information Items

      A.      Class Configuration:

Using the current enrollment figures, Miss Simms briefly explained the staffing process as it relates to class configuration. There will be three 5th grades, three 4th grades, three 3rd grades, four 2nd grades and four 1st grades.  Due to the Smaller Class Size Initiative, there will be three additional classes: two multiage (1st-2nd) and one 3rd. There will be four Kindergarten classes each with an assistant.

      B.      Special Area class schedule

The Scheduling Committee is an ad hoc committee composed of Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Johnson, Joe Bowsher, Elayne Crystal and Sara Hodges. Juaacklyn Cunningham, representing the scheduling committee, explained the format of   the schedule. All classes were scheduled for art, music, PE and science. The science position is 1.0 and therefore has some open blocks of time in the schedule which council needs to address.  The priorities for the schedule were: 1) that every teacher having daily planning; 2) that 4th & 5th grade students not have special classes in their area for assessment on Monday or Friday due to the number of those days we traditionally miss; and 3) that team members have common planning time. On the schedule, library time is extended to 55 minutes like the other special classes. It has previously been only 40 minutes There was some discussion about rotating the schedule to keep students from missing their Monday and Friday classes. Miss Simms suggested that we try the schedule as written first. Council approved the schedule.
