SBDM Council Minutes

Special Called Meeting

April 8, 2004

The Picadome School Community is committed to all students attaining the highest levels of academic achievement and responsible citizenship through equitable opportunities in becoming lifelong learners.

The meeting was called to order at 4:33 p.m. by Darla Simms, Council chair. Members present were: teachers- Tammy Johnson, Bill McMakin and Kathy Cleary; parent-Steve Stone. Parents Bob Kinley and  Jeff Mefford were absent.

I.      Professional Leave Request

Requests presented:

Fourth grade teachers to attend a Portfolio Training: Instructional Analysis and Scoring May 5th and 6th (two subs will be required for each day).  Council approved by consensus.

Jennifer Polnisch, Early Start Teacher, to attend a conference.  At council request, Miss Simms will check with the district Early Start Office to see if District Funds are available to pay for this conference.

II.     Staffing

Miss Simms reported that when she meet with Julane Mullins in the Budget Office on March 26th with our council’s approved plan, Julane told her retired teachers could not be hired right now; therefore because council had not rank ordered the options, Miss Simms was unable to complete our staffing workbook.  After discussion, council approved by consensus purchasing a .5 Writing Specialist and a .8 Micro-Computer Specialist at this time.  We still want to purchase a Reading Specialist but will wait until we can hire retired teachers and search for other sources of funding at that time (perhaps ESS Day Waiver, Activity Fund, etc.).

III.               Summer School Program

Mrs. Smith presented a draft plan for our Summer School Program.  After discussion, council approved the plan by consensus.

IV.              Comprehensive School Improvement Plan

Mrs. Smith presented the revised Draft of our 2004-2006 Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.  Council requested several changes/corrections.  Mrs. Smith will make these corrections before submitting the plan to the district.  Council approved the plan (with corrections) by consensus.
