SBDM
Council Minutes
Special
Called Meeting
August 12, 2003
4:00 Darla Simms, council chair, called the meeting to order at 4:08. Members present were: teachers- Tammy Johnson, Bill McMakin, Kathy Cleary; parent-Steve Stone. Jeff Mefford was absent. I.
Approval of minutes The minutes from the July 21 meeting were read and approved (with corrections) by consensus. II. Budget KETS The budget item on the agenda involves KETS (Kentucky Educational Technology Standards) money. Mrs. Moore, our Microcomputer Specialist, sent a proposal to council for purchasing additional computers with KETS money for this school year. The proposal was reviewed and discussed. It was approved by consensus. Discussion followed on the fact that Picadome needs to have an updated budget policy. With a budget policy, guidelines for spending would be specific and the need for a special called meeting for approval of each purchase may not be necessary. Our Technology Committee would need to present a purchasing plan for the school year based on the guidelines of the budget policy. Policy writing will be assigned to committees at the SBDM August 20 meeting. III. Consultation on hiring Since the involuntary transfer kindergarten teacher who was assigned to Picadome from Russell has accepted a position at another school, it is necessary to hire a new kindergarten teacher to replace her. Miss Simms brought a recommendation from the interview committee. Consultation occurred for the filling of the kindergarten vacancy. Amy Teel will be our new kindergarten teacher. Tonya Washington, who was a special education Para educator last year, has requested moving into the Early Start assistant position. Janine Zombeck was moved into a Primary Assistant position. Both of these changes are in-school transfers approved by Miss Simms and requiring no interviews. This leaves a special education Para educator position vacant which we will begin interviewing for on Friday, August 15, 2003.
IV. Schedule Changes in the schedule for special area classes Miss Simms reviewed the council’s spring decision of purchasing a .8 P.E. certified teacher position through discretionary funds which met our needs at that time. This position is now a full time position; the district is funding the additional .2 due to an error in procedure. The scheduling committee has met and made some changes to the original schedule. Miss Simms asked council to consider how we need to utilize the additional planning time created in the P.E. teacher’s schedule. Since the science position is also 1.0, there is also additional time in her schedule. It was suggested that the science teacher tutor students in reading to support our Literacy Goal. Miss Simms asked council to give this some thought being aware that we be adding an additional teacher after Day 4 due to increased enrollment. This would necessitate changing the schedule again. Council will re-evaluate the schedule at the August 20 meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 4:40.
Respectfully submitted, Becky Boling
