SBDM Council Minutes

January 14, 2004

The Picadome School Community is committed to all students attaining the highest levels of academic achievement and responsible citizenship through equitable opportunities in becoming lifelong learners.

The meeting was called to order at 3:20 PM by Darla Simms, Council chair. Members present were: teachers- Tammy Johnson, Bill McMakin and Kathy Cleary; parents-Steve Stone and Bob Kinley. Parent Jeff Mefford was absent.

I.                   Budget

A.    Decision on use of remaining section 4 funds-

Miss Simms told the council that here was approximately $4000 left in Picadome’s staffing budget. After discussion of options for the use of this money, it was recommended that this money be used to increase Mrs. Evans, Reading Specialist from a .3 to a .5 position allowing Beth Isaacs to become a 1.0 music instructor rather than a .8 music teacher and .2 reading teacher. Council approved this by consensus. It was also decided since Mrs. Evans will now be a .5 Reading Specialist paid through the staffing budget, she would no longer work in the ESS day-waiver program; therefore the ESS day waiver program would now be staffed by one person by increasing Mrs. Savage’s time to replace Mrs. Evans in this program.

B.    Decision on use of money from TAGLIT

Miss Simms gave the council some background on the TAGLIT (Taking a Good Look at Instructional Technology) money. KDE asked for principals to voluntarily survey their staff on the use of technology within their school. The results would be used for planning technology instruction.  The participating schools were each given $550 to use for technology.  Council agreed by consensus to purchase 35 site licenses for the program Inspiration 7.5. It was also agreed to purchase Documents to Go V.6.0 to be used on Miss Simms’ IPAQ at the cost of $67.89. The total expenditure will be $549.67.

II.           Third Grade Bookstore Organization

Miss Simms presented the proposed changes from the third grade teachers  on the plan for the operation of their school bookstore supporting their economics curriculum. They propose the bookstore be set up Monday through Thursday in room 236 from 7:30 – 7:50 a.m.  Kindergarten –second grade students could shop on Tuesday and Thursday and fourth and fifth grade students could shop on Monday and Wednesday.  All students must have a pass from their homeroom teacher in order to shop.  Friday the bookstore would be closed for inventory; third graders may shop on Fridays.  Council approved by consensus.

 Meeting adjourned at 4:02 PM

 Respectfully submitted,

Becky Boling
