Picadome Elementary SBDM Minutes August 10, 2006
The Picadome School Community is committed to all students becoming lifelong learners through academic success and responsible citizenship.
Meeting was called to order at 3:15.
Present: Kathy Cleary, Jeff Mefford, Steve Stone, Ricki Rosenberg, Darla Simms, Bill McMakin.
I. Minutes July 11 minutes were read and approved with corrections.
II. Budget A. SCIF-Council reviewed the SCIF budget. Council agreed to continue giving classroom teachers $450 of SCIF money each year. Special education and special area teachers will make requests for items as needed. B. Activity Fund was reviewed.
III. Information Items A. Language Arts textbooks have been ordered; textbook for some grade levels have arrived. B. Our application for the ESS Day Waiver was denied. Ms. Cunningham is revising and resubmitting. C. Council received the 2006-2007 master schedule and agreed to keep the 40 minute library schedule, in order to allow some flexibility in the use of the library. It was suggested that Mrs. Sims, librarian, consult with Arlington Elementary about their flexible library scheduling. D. Picadome was awarded three Requests for Proposals (RFPs): one full-time Primary Writing Coach, two part-time intermediate On-Demand/Open Response Coaches, and SuccessMaker for the computers in the computer lab. Ms. Simms discussed the need to amend RFPs to better meet student needs due to overcrowding in our intermediate classrooms. E. Council discussed options for carry forward funds from our Read to Achieve Grant (RTA) approximately $10,723.15. Council will make a decision at our next meeting after Miss Simms and Mrs. Tipton have met with the district to review our RTA Grant funding. There was also some discussion of using Supplemental Duty funds to fund additional instructional positions: library clerk and reading intervention teacher. (See hiring and consultation).
IV. Action Items A. Hiring and Consultation Consultation occurred for the filling of the kindergarten paraeducator vacancy. The interview committee is recommending Nan Dunaway for this position and council concurred. Jennifer Keeton who worked at Picadome as a paraeducator last year will be returning to fill a vacant multi-age primary assistant position. Consultation occurred for the filling of a 4th grade vacancy. The interview committee is recommending Keli Back for this position and council concurred. Consultation occurred for the filling of a 5th grade vacancy. The interview committee is recommending Pam Hart for this position and council concurred Consultation occurred for the filling of a .5 Intermediate Open Response/On Demand coach. The interview committee is recommending Shannon Richardson for this position and council concurred. Ms. Simms informed council that two teachers have requested medical leave. A substitute has been hired to cover in the kindergarten class and Ms. Simms will work with IAKSS to hire a substitute to temporarily fill the counseling position. Council agreed by consensus to use supplemental duty money to increase our library media clerk/office clerk from .7 to .8.
B. Enrollment update We continue to have a waiting list and when spaces become available, we will take students from waiting list. Currently we have over 600 students. Due to the number of intermediate students we will have a multi-age (combination) class of fourth and fifth graders.
V. Public Comment A. Council requested to see the schedules of the portfolio writing teacher, and On-Demand/Open Response coaches at the next council meetings. B. Parent minority election needs to take place.
VI. Professional Development Leave request approved for Carol Moffet, Jena Tipton, and Pam Sims. Ms. Sims will be going to an Accelerated Reader Meeting in Lexington on November 8 for a cost of $149, Jenna Tipton will be going to the Kentucky Reading Conference in Louisville on September 22 for an estimated cost of $355, and Carol Moffet will be presenting at the Kentucky Reading Conference in Louisville on September 22 for a cost of $240.
