SBDM Meeting Minutes

Thursday December 14, 2006

3:15 p.m.

The Picadome School Community is committed to all students becoming lifelong learners through academic success and responsible citizenship.

Present: Kathy Cleary, Stacey Davis, Bill McMakin, Steve Stone, Darla Simms, Ricki Rosenberg

Late: Jeff Mefford 3:30

Meeting called to order at 3:23 p.m.

I.        Welcome to new member, Stacey Davis.

II.  Minutes

Since we do not have an SBDM secretary, Ms. Simms will be sending copies of previous minutes (taken by council members) for review and final approval.  These should be ready at the January meeting.  We are working to have the minutes on our web page in a more timely manner.

III. Budget

A. SCIF

SCIF budget was reviewed. Ms. Simms will check with Mrs. Sims concerning the $959.85 carry forward/encumbered.

Copier update:  The copier company was generous and loaned us a smaller used additional copier at Picadome because our one machine has needed repair often. According to Ms. Tronzo, we still are being charged by copy, having a second machine does not cost any additional funds.

February 1 is the cut-off date for teachers spending classroom SCIF funds. We are roughly half-way through spending.

Second Month Average Daily Attendance (ADA) Adjustment

Based on our second month increased average daily attendance, we have received additional funding: textbook money-an additional $4370.57; SCIF funds an additional $6619.05.  The additional funds ($10989.62) will be put in contingency; we will need to do a budget transfer in order to spend these funds.

Several teachers have expressed concerns about students being so focused on perfect attendance, now that we are providing attendance incentives that they are coming to school when they are ill.  Council discussed this and decided to continue the attendance incentives since we are averaging about 95.5% average daily attendance.  Miss Simms will remind students that they need to stay home if they are sick and will have a chance for perfect attendance the following month.

B. Activity Fund

Funds from our School Pictures are now in our activity fund and will be used to pay for the pictures ordered.  We will make some profit from picture sales.

IV. Information Items

A. Suggested strategies/activities for our CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan) from our staff November 7, 2006 Professional Development.

Council members were given a list of suggested strategies/activities generated by staff at our November 7th Professional Development session on Analyzing Student Achievement Data. Council members were asked to review suggested strategies/activities handout before our January SBDM Meeting and encouraged to think of any other possible strategies.

Children’s author George Ella Lyon is coming to Picadome on January 23 to provide instruction in writing to our students and professional development for our staff.

            B. Flu Clinic

Our FRC (Family Resource Center) is planning a flu clinic on December 18 through the Paragon Family Practice to provide flu shots to our families.

V. 2005-2006 School Report Card

Council reviewed our School Report Card which is due tomorrow.  Council approved the information included by consensus.

VI. Public Comment

Recess: Council discussed the amount of time now allowed for recess which may still be counted as instructional time. Recess should be available to all students; if there are disciplinary issues, they should be sent to the principal. If a student has not completed work, the student may lose choice at recess; they may walk the track, but will not have the choice of open free play.  Teachers are also taking small breaks throughout the day for movement/exercise. If there are children or parents who are concerned that recess is being taken away, they should speak with Ms. Simms.  We will discuss this issue again to clarify the amount of time for recess based on state, district, and school Wellness Policies.
