SBDM Meeting

February 15, 2007

The Picadome School Community is committed to all students becoming lifelong learners through academic success and responsible citizenship.

The meeting was called to order at 3:50 PM.

Members present: Stacey Davis, Darla Simms, Ricki Rosenberg, Steve Stone, Jeff Mefford and Kathy Cleary; Absent: Bill McMakin

I.                    The agenda for today’s meeting was approved with two additions. The minutes of the January meeting were read and approved.

II.                 Budget

A.     School Council Instructional Funds (SCIF)

Council reviewed the SCIF printout (see attached). Miss Simms explained that Mrs. Pam Sims, librarian, ordered three TVs to replace outdated ones. They arrived and were installed but still appear on the SCIF print out as encumbered funds.   Miss Simms will check with bookkeeper and make sure the bill has been paid.

Council discussed use of money that is currently in the General Supplies fund. Miss Simms suggested Time for Kids for all grade levels, atlases and thesauri for fifth grade and content reading (especially science) for all grade levels. Ms Rosenberg suggested purchasing laptops with some of the remaining SCIF monies. Council agreed to transfer the money from the Principal’s Office Contingency fund (from second month Average Daily Attendance adjustment) to General Supplies. Miss Simms will talk with staff about other instructional needs which could be purchased from these funds.

B.     Activity Fund

           Council discussed the Activity Fund.

III.               Information Items

A.     Student Achievement Data

Council analyzed Predictive Assessment System (PAS) district reports of Picadome student achievement levels for Fall and Winter in Math, Reading/Language Arts and Science.  It was noted that students have made good progress in reading; math progress was not as significant. Council discussed possible reasons for the disparity in math. One possibility is that the PAS tests may not be closely aligned with Kentucky Core Content.

B.     Request for Proposals (RFP)

Miss Simms discussed the plan for the Records/Conference Day on Friday, Feb 16. Teachers will spend time working on disaggregating data and writing RFPs.  Ms Simms reported to council the mid-year report of current RFPs—see attached.  She also reported on a mid-year check survey of Primary teachers regarding the effectiveness of Primary Writing Coach position. Results were positive.

C.     Disaggregated data

Miss Simms reported on students’ Open Response performance based on February Learning Checks.

D.   SBDM training

Several council members have not been trained; they will either do the online training or will attend a training session if more are available.

E.       Committee Reports—none

F.       5th grade Promotional Exercises

Ms Isaacs, music teacher, had planned to have the fifth grade musical performance on May 16; due to snow days, this will be changed to May 29. After the performance, there would be promotional exercises and a celebration for fifth graders.

G.     FCPS Policy on meetings on Snow Days

There was a question as to whether or not council meetings are held if scheduled on a snow day. Miss Simms reported that district policy states that all school activities are cancelled on snow days, including SBDM council meetings.

H.     Action Items

a.       Primary Configuration

Council discussed possible configurations and decided on:                                                   *Kindergarten classes will be separate.

*First-Second grade classes will continue to be multi age.

*Third grade classes will be separate.

b.      Enrollment projections

Ms Simms shared district enrollment projections.

c.       School Improvement Plan

Council discussed components for the School Improvement Plan (SIP). Ms Simms will bring the draft SIP to the next council meeting. Strategies discussed at the Nov 7 staff Professional Development, strategies and activities from Senate Bill 168, strategies discussed in SBDM and strategies suggested by committees will be included.

  1.       Public Comment

A concern was raised about a student missing a test in order to attend Quest program. Ms Simms will talk with teachers to clarify that this should not occur.

VI.       Professional Development Request

                  No additional request.

Meeting was adjourned at 6:05.
