            B.  Activity Fund

reported to council the current status.

III.       Information Items

            A.  Academic Challenge

Ms Simms described the Academic Challenge program offered by One Community/One Voice. Picadome has 30

students who turned in a registration form. Picadome will participate in Academic Challenge.

            B.  Staffing update

Jessica Hall is doing an excellent job as the long-term substitute in Kindergarten. Consultation occurred on the

hiring of Ms Hall as the full-time teacher when the position becomes available in January.

Vicki Jones, attendance clerk, will be on medical leave until January 2, 2008. The district has provided us

a  substitute during her absence. When she returns, appropriate support will be provided as she continues to

                         recover.

Teresa Littrell is now full-time fifth grade instructional assistant, approved by council at the September 6,

2007 meeting. Sarah Peters is serving as a long-term substitute to replace the open .5 third grade instructional

     assistant position.

Ms Simms reported that the disability retirement for Jane Justice has been approved by the state which

creates a vacant Child Guidance Specialist position. Council agreed that Ms Simms should begin screening

candidates and begin interviewing for this position.

            C.  Enrollment update

The district is contacting the parents remaining on the waiting list to see if  they still wish to enroll their

                         children at Picadome.

            D.  Report on minority council member

The minority parent election took place at the general PTA meeting on  November 29. Katrina James is now our

                         new council member.

Mr. Camuel reported that he asked the three minority faculty members if they wished to run for council. Each

                         of them declined the offer.

            E.   Playground update

The playground will be taken down on December 20 since it is no longer structurally sound and does not meet

current playground codes. A meeting is scheduled for December 19 with community and school representatives

and the Urban County Council member to plan for the future as we begin to order new playground structures.

            F.   Vertical Alignment

Ms Simms reported that discussion from the vertical planning groups has  resulted in the use of the term

“learning targets” for goals/outcomes. In the second semester of second grade, the teachers will begin to teach

cursive  writing with a focus on lower case letter formation and connecting letters  to form words. Vertical
