Picadome Elementary SBDM Council Meeting Minutes December 13, 2007 3:00 p.m.
The Picadome School Community is committed to all students becoming lifelong learners through academic success and responsible citizenship.
The meeting was called to order at 3:10.
Members present: Faculty: Darla Simms, Chris Camuel, Ricki Rosenberg, Kathy Cleary Parents: Steve Stone, Katrina James
Members absent: Tim Locker
I. Approval of the November 15 minutes Minutes from the November 15, 2007 SBDM minutes were approved by consensus. Welcome new council member: Katrina James
II. Budget A. SCIF Council reviewed SCIF Budget report B. Activity Fund Steve Stone inquired about the status of the Activity Fund. Ms Simms reported to council the current status.
III. Information Items A. Academic Challenge Ms Simms described the Academic Challenge program offered by One Community/One Voice. Picadome has 30 students who turned in a registration form. Picadome will participate in Academic Challenge. B. Staffing update Jessica Hall is doing an excellent job as the long-term substitute in Kindergarten. Consultation occurred on the hiring of Ms Hall as the full-time teacher when the position becomes available in January.
Vicki Jones, attendance clerk, will be on medical leave until January 2, 2008. The district has provided us a substitute during her absence. When she returns, appropriate support will be provided as she continues to recover.
Teresa Littrell is now full-time fifth grade instructional assistant, approved by council at the September 6, 2007 meeting. Sarah Peters is serving as a long-term substitute to replace the open .5 third grade instructional assistant position.
Ms Simms reported that the disability retirement for Jane Justice has been approved by the state which creates a vacant Child Guidance Specialist position. Council agreed that Ms Simms should begin screening candidates and begin interviewing for this position.
C. Enrollment update The district is contacting the parents remaining on the waiting list to see if they still wish to enroll their children at Picadome. D. Report on minority council member The minority parent election took place at the general PTA meeting on November 29. Katrina James is now our new council member. Mr. Camuel reported that he asked the three minority faculty members if they wished to run for council. Each of them declined the offer. E. Playground update The playground will be taken down on December 20 since it is no longer structurally sound and does not meet current playground codes. A meeting is scheduled for December 19 with community and school representatives and the Urban County Council member to plan for the future as we begin to order new playground structures. F. Vertical Alignment Ms Simms reported that discussion from the vertical planning groups has resulted in the use of the term “learning targets” for goals/outcomes. In the second semester of second grade, the teachers will begin to teach cursive writing with a focus on lower case letter formation and connecting letters to form words. Vertical planning meetings will be held again on Jan.29.
IV. Action Items A. School Report Card Ms Simms reviewed the Picadome school report card with council (see attached). The school report card was emailed to SBDM members on Monday, December 10 for feedback before Ms Simms signed off on it. B. Emergency Management Plan Ms Simms reviewed the Picadome Emergency Management Plan (see attached). Council approved the plan by consensus. The Health & Safety Committee will continue to recommend purchase of needed items. Ms Simms will review the changes to the plan with all staff members. C. School Improvement Plan (SIP) The council reviewed the implementation of current strategies and revisions to the SIP through page six. The council will continue the review at the January meeting. Ms Simms reported that we are changing the component manager for parent involvement from the PSA to the Family Resource Center director. D. SBDM By-Laws revisions Council agreed to review by-law revisions at the January meeting.
