Council Minutes
August
14, 2001 Members present: Juaacklyn Cunningham, Tammy Johnson, Tammy Lynch, Betty Ann Scott, and Darla Simms
The
meeting was called to order at 5:10 pm.
The minutes read and approved with corrections in spelling to Darla
Simms name in the July 11 minutes and the addition of Betty Ann Scott to the
June 5 council meeting.
Darla
Simms presented Council with the general ledger budget.
The Munis budget report will be presented at the next Council meeting.
Darla Simms informed Council of new additions to the Picadome staff.
They are: Lucia Brown (5th
grade teacher), Rikki Rosenberg (.5 writing teacher), Angela Johnson (special
education teacher), and Janine Zombek (special education assistant).
After interviewing the 8 candidates available the interviewing
committee has not been able to fill the science position.
Darla Simms is working
with Peggy Blanton in the hiring of another special education assistant.
It
was the consensus of Council that the .5 writing teacher would work with 3rd
and 4th grade students. She
would also be available to model writing lessons.
She will work on a schedule with the 3rd and 4th
grade teachers. It was the
consensus of Council that the literacy specialist position would work with 1st
graders that have been identified for reading remediation.
The remaining time would be used for students in 2nd and 3rd
grade. The literacy
specialist/reading teacher will write a job description to present at the
September meeting. The .5 PSA
will work with the literacy specialist. The
responsibility of the PSA will depend upon the funding source.
Half of the PSA funding will be funded by the .5 PSA.

Darla Simms presented Council with a plan to increase the time that
kindergarten students spend in special classes so that it is equitable with
that of other classrooms. Special
area teachers would be begin classes at 8:15 am.
It was the consensus of Council to increase this time.
Darla Simms presented Council with the Literacy plan that was developed
at the Closing of the Gap Institute in June.
There
will be a special called meeting for Council on August 28 at 5:00 pm.
The agenda will be the Day 4 count.
Council
scheduled the SBDM meetings for the 2001-2002 school year.
Council meetings will be at 6:00 pm on the following dates:
Sept. 20, Oct. 11, Nov. 15, Dec. 13, Jan.17, Feb. 21, Mar.21, April 18,
May 16, and June 6.
